Elaboration on the "Chores:"
My son has morning chores (making bed, brushing teeth, etc), that he does while I clean up from breakfast and straighten up the kitchen, sweep the kitchen floor, and usually start a load of laundry. During our first recess break of the day, I usually unload/load the dishwasher, or switch laundry.
During the second break, before lunch, I'm in the kitchen getting lunch ready. When we're done eating, he has free time while I clean up after lunch.
As for the "Mom Chores," I use this time to rotate through the larger chores of the house. I try to stick to this schedule, but sometimes get off. If I get my chores done, then I get to read, if I'm not constantly interrupted by my son showing me the latest Lego Star Wars Droid he's built.
Monday- Kid's laundry (usually 2 loads), wash and fold
Tuesday- Start adult laundry (usually 2-3 loads a week), wash, fold
Wednesday- Finish adult laundry (1-2 loads), wash, fold; clean bathrooms
Thursday- Laundry (towels if a full load); Sweep/vacuum the floors in the house
Friday- Meal Planning, Grocery Shopping, Personal reading, laundry I didn't finish, sometimes a nap!
Saturday- Cooking day, if needed, or Grocery Shopping, and other chores as needed (clean fridge, mop floors, dusting, laundry I still haven't finished, wash windows, change bed sheets, etc.)
I try to do one cooking day a month. I make or prepare about 14 meals to keep in the freezer to make dinners easier through the weeks. 14 usually gets us through a month, since I make pizza every Friday night, and Tuesday nights are my kid's choice meals that often can't be planned too far in advance.
And there you have it. An ideal week in my house. But, keep in mind it's Friday, Jan. 15, and our stockings are still hung, and the tree is still trimmed; it's 11:25, and we're only now getting started with school. Maybe next week will be more ideal.
